The Globetrotter 66
The largest design in the Globetrotter stable for a California owner.
The Globetrotter 66 is a new design in aluminum for David Brooks of California. This as-yet unnamed yacht will be used for offshore voyaging by David and his family of six. The primary features are:
FEATURES:
- Cat-schooner rig with free-standing carbon fiber rotating wingmasts & half-wishbone booms; under-deck running rigging to cockpit
- Construction in welded aluminum
- Inner liner plating for double-hull construction
- Four watertight bulkheads dividing hull into five watertight spaces
- Raised deck house with main saloon, galley & inside helm
- Three cabins with master cabin forward and two guest cabins aft
- Scoop stern with radar arch and dinghy hoist
- External lead ballast with bulb
- Skeg-hung rudder
- Yanmar 4LHA-HTP 4-cylinder diesel engine, 160 HP at 3300 RPM with V-drive
- Water ballast using fresh water (water ballast tanks are fresh water storage tanks)
- Electric bow thruster, 13 HP
- Twin 105-lb Bruce anchors on bow with twin Maxwell 3500 vertical electric windlasses & each equipped with 300' of ½” dia. high-test chain
- Single 60-lb Danforth anchor on stern with single Maxwell 2200 vertical electric windlass & equipped with 300' of 7/16” dia. high test chain
The preliminary design began in August 2009, and is now in review by Brooks and his shipwright. The complete design should be finished by mid-2010 with construction starting sometime during that time. More than one yacht is certainly a possibility if other interested owners come forward.
