Scandinavian Cruisers has asked
SYDI to develop two versions of the new SC40--the Sport Cruiser (the
original configuration) and now the Day Boat, with a larger cockpit
and smaller below-deck accommodation. New 3-D photo-realistic
renderings are also complete.
Scandinavian
Cruisers (SC) in Beijing, China, wants to bring elegance back to yacht design and
sailing. To do that, one has to look back in history when men
were men, women were women, and sailboats had short waterlines and
long overhangs. Think of the 30 Square Meter boats of 100 years
ago.
SYDI
drew the first version, now the Sport Cruiser, which was posted here
in April, 2008. SC has found from early market reaction that
there may also be a desire in the market for a version that is
tailored strictly for day sailing as opposed to a weekender. At
SC's direction, SYDI developed the Day Boat which will cater to those
customers who simply want a sleek, fast boat for a few hours'
sail. Below are the sail plans of the two versions:

The
Day Boat
The
salient features of the SC 40 designs are:
-
A
long and narrow hullform with long overhangs.
-
Lifting
keel with T-bulb.
-
Lifting
rudder in a drum and tiller steering.
-
Overnight
accommodations for 2-3 people
in the Sport Cruiser version.
-
A
free-standing wingmast sloop rig.
-
Fiberglass
construction for the
hull and deck, and carbon fiber construction for the appendages and rig.
-
The
boat must sit on its own trailer and all must fit in a standard
40' shipping container.
